從流感大流行的預測到疫苗的研究
在SARS與禽流感之後，全球流感蠢蠢欲動，且規模可能不在西班牙流感之下，預測這波流感的動向，將是科學家最大的挑戰。
1997年香港發生H5N1禽流感由雞傳人的事件後，世界衛生組織及全球流感專家大為震驚，因此決定撲殺香港300萬隻雞，使得香港發生史上首度新年無雞可吃的窘境。但因為處置得宜而未發生人傳人的事件。2004/2005年H5N1禽流感禽傳人又在亞洲的泰國及越南發生，有鑑於此波禽流感規模之廣泛，以及已經有50多件禽傳人病例發生，且死亡率達30％—70％，如果無法有效控制，將使H5N1流感發生全球大流行，影響深遠。這樣的演變是否真會如預期發生，其實是科學界最大的考驗。
政府對禽流感的準備包括三大部分，即抗病毒藥物的儲備、疫苗的準備，以及公衛措施與衛生教育。近年來由於新型抗病毒藥物的研發及上市，可以在流感病毒感染早期，即有效地抑制病毒複製、減輕症狀及減少死亡，且對禽流感各型病毒皆有效，因而提供了醫學界一個對抗新型流感的有利武器。
科學界了解疫苗是應該準備，但要等到有限性人傳人確定發生後，再全面施打疫苗。一般推測，由第二階段演變成第三階段的大流行，約需半年時間，此期間可用來選殖適當的流行病毒株以製造疫苗。
醫學界目前也在評估中草藥在流感大流行時可能扮演的角色，目前有一些含Phycocyanin 的中草藥及食品，已知可以抑制流感病毒。
流感全球大流行是否因此會有效控制，是一個歷史的挑戰，也有待日後印證。不過，醫學研究的進步，讓科學家可以監測及預測病毒的演變，進而發展疫苗及研發抗病毒藥物，在病毒的防範上，相信會比過去來得有效，各國政府必須早日因應。

95年度國家衛生研究院博士後研究學者獎助2006 NHRI Postdoctoral Fellowship Award
說明：
國家衛生研究院為獎勵優秀博士後研究人才於國內研究單位進行全職博士後研究，特提供「國家衛生研究院博士後研究學者獎助」。
獎勵名額與申請資格：
95年度提供5個名額。申請人限近4年內(民國91年01月01日及以後)獲得醫藥衛生或生命科學博士學位或醫學士學位者，並深具研究潛力且成績優秀。獲獎之研究學者須前往國內醫藥衛生相關之研究機構進行全職博士後研究。(注意：若申請人欲前往之實驗室主持人與就讀博士班的指導教授相同時，請加覓一位共同指導教授，以擴展研究領域)
獎助內容：
1. 第1年每名每月獎助新台幣7萬1,000元整，第2年起依獲獎者研究表現，逐年調整獎助金額。
2. 每年得補助研究消耗品經費，補助金額以新台幣30萬元為上限。
3. 每年視需要得補助乙次出席國際會議費用，補助金額以新台幣5萬元為上限。
4. 本年度獎助自95年01月01日至96年12月31日止，為期2年。若有特殊原因，得申請延後獎助起始日期，惟最多以半年為限。

2. 學、經歷證明文件影本乙式二份。 4. 論文抽印本乙式四份。
